My wife and I have been without our TV service for two weeks now. Don't worry, we did not get all crazy and decide to shut it off because Spongebob said the word "butt" in front our little angels. Honestly, our HDMI input on our TV puts out a crazy green screen now when we plug in our DirecTv. Yeah, what a bummer huh?
Instead, we have been playing some Xbox 360. I was messing around with the Xbox and realized that we could get Netflix through it. So now we watch movies nonstop and it streams instantly. How cool is that? But, here's the kicker - did we replace TV with movies thinking it would be better?
One of the guys that helps me get plumbing jobs done has been trying to break a nasty addiction of smoking cigarettes. He has tried everything from patches to gum to going cold turkey. But nothing has worked. So one day he came in with some Copenhagen (dip) in his pocket. I asked him about it and he said that he could break his smoking habit by dipping instead. Is this really going to help him in the long run? Cancer of the mouth instead of the lungs? How do we get trapped into these temptations to start with?
What I am getting at is that sometimes we take the little "white" sins that we believe we cannot break on our own and replace them with another. Do we do this to try and trick our conscience into thinking that the change is better for us? Or is it just another temporary excuse to normalize something that is an abomination against our bodies and God?
James 1:2-4
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
I know that I am tempted everyday and I LOVE IT! "Did he just say he loved it?" Oh yeah baby, it is one more opportunity to kick Satan square in the nuts! "It must suck to be such a loser." (JCapenter)
When you are close to God, temptations are easier to overcome. James tells us "come closer to God and he will come close to you."
So whether your little "white" sin is smoking, or eating or clicking too far on the computer, (yeah guys, you know what I'm talking about) have faith in knowing that God can get rid of any desire on the planet if only you will lay it at His feet. He can't help you if you never ask...
Stay tuned........
This is awesome stuff man! Thanks for sharing... wow, that's huge.
